Abstract
Background and Aim: Universal human rights and regional or relative human rights are two approaches to the process of human rights normization. The aim of this study is to explain the role of UNESCO in these two approaches, taking into account Islamic teachings.
Materials and Methods: This research is of theoretical type and the research method is descriptive-analytical and the method of data collection is library and has been done by referring to documents, books and articles.
Ethical Considerations: In order to organize this research, while observing the authenticity of the texts, honesty and fidelity have been observed.
Findings: Relativism in the human rights arena currently has more supporters among theorists. Also, international practice and the process of approving international documents indicate UNESCO's choice towards relativism. On the other hand, cultural diversity and respect for different customs and traditions have also been recognized in Islamic teachings.
Conclusion: The Islamic approach to human rights, long before the modern trends in international human rights, has emphasized the need to respect cultural diversity, and this is explicitly mentioned directly in the main source of Islam, the Holy Quran.
